Apache OpenOffice 4.1.14
Download Apache OpenOffice, which is a free office suite for Windows, Mac and Linux!
OpenOffice is a collection of office software for your computer, published by Apache Software. The program is developed by Sun Microsystems, using open source.
The collection includes a writing program, a presentation program, an image processing program, a spreadsheet, a formal program, and a database program. It thus corresponds to the content of other office software packages.
Apache OpenOffice is far from the only package of its kind, because there are several different packages of office applications on the market. Apache OpenOffice is certainly competitive, in part because it's free, where other programs cost money.
Although it is free, do not worry that the quality is lower than in the programs that cost money, because that is not the case.
Compatibility
With Apache OpenOffice, you can easily open programs from the Microsoft Office suite. Thus, it does not cause problems if you have old files left that were created with the Office suite, or if you receive files from others who use Microsoft Office.
In Apache OpenOffice, you can also save your files so that they can be read by the Microsoft Office suite, so others will not have trouble reading your files either. This applies whether it is text, a presentation, a spreadsheet, or other files.
In addition, you can use Apache OpenOffice on both Windows, Mac and Linux computers!
Appearance
Apache OpenOffice is relatively easy to find if you are a Microsoft Office user. However, it may still require some getting used to, because everything is not quite as in the new Microsoft Office suite. The programs in Apache OpenOffice are similar to programs in an old version of the Microsoft Office suite, but it should be easy for most people to find out.
As you know from the Microsoft Office suite, in Apache OpenOffice there is a bar at the top of the screen. This bar has a series of logos, each representing a tool that can be used in that program.
For example, the diskette means "save" and the scissors mean "cut". It's so easy and intuitive - which is one of the reasons why the Apache OpenOffice suite can be used by anyone.
It's so easy to figure out; especially if you are already used to using a similar program, it will not take much time before you have complete control over using Apache OpenOffice as well. You will therefore experience an easy transition to this free software package - and having less to worry about is always positive.
Despite the simple design that makes the program user-friendly, it is also necessary to point out that it is not a Windows 11 based (and Microsoft designed) program that you will be working with. The program is just fine, but also does not add much more than the basics, purely visually.
Language
Apache OpenOffice is available in several different languages, including Danish. Language difficulties will therefore not get in the way of using the programs in the package.
If the program does not already exist in your language, do not despair, because the probability of it coming is high. You can find the large selection of language packs by using this link.
Programmer
The many programs in it can be more or less the same as the programs in the Microsoft Office suite.
In this section we have written a brief overviewabout the many different programs you get in your OpenOffice package when you download the program for free from our site:
- Writing program (Writer): In this program you can, among other things, write - you can also make diagrams and insert pictures. The program can be used both for very fast and short texts and for long novels, very similar to e.g. google docs.
- Presentation program (Impress): In this program you can make presentations with text and pictures.
- Image processing program (Draw): In this program you can draw - both sketches and more complicated drawings. With the program it is easy to make graphics and diagrams.
- Spreadsheet (Calc): In this program you can calculate - you enter your numbers and the program calculates for you. You can also make graphs of your calculations.
- Formula program (Math): In this program you can write mathematical formulas and equations. The program can be used alone or with other programs in the Apache OpenOffice package.
- Database program (Base): In this program you can manage (or create) your databases.
Users
For example, the Apache OpenOffice package can be useful for you who go to school, and it can be useful for you who go to work; users can be everyone - and there are a lot of people around the world who use the Apache OpenOffice package.
What you can use the programs for can thus also be very different: you can, for example, write notes for what your teacher is talking about, and you can do complex work tasks or quick notes.
History
Apache OpenOffice has a long history behind it, which in short is as follows: The story starts with the commercial product called StarOffice. StarOffice dates back to 1985, so it's a story that has been around for a few years. A lot has happened since 1985, but the short of the long is that based on StarOffice, OpenOffice.org was created. OpenOffice.org is a free product, as is Apache OpenOffice later.
In 2011, Apache got the rights and the name became Apache OpenOffice.
Conclusion
Apache OpenOffice is basically an easily accessible writing program for you who are looking for a powerful and free alternative to similar programs. Apache OpenOffice works much like the alternatives, with minimal design differences.
If you are still not convinced about OpenOffice, then you can also read our article on LibreOffice, which runs on many of the same (free) principles as this software package.
